Leaky Cable-Leaky Feeder Cable

What is Leaky Cable?

The Leaky Cable is a leak feeder type coaxial cable, the conductor has a sparse braid, open slots or holes and other open structures, so that the electromagnetic wave can propagate in the cable in the longitudinal direction at the same time, through the slotted holes to the radiation of the outside world, and the electromagnetic field of the outside world can be induced by the slotted holes inside the cable and transmitted to the receiving end.
Structure: It mainly consists of driver, isolation, outer conductor with periodic slot holes and cable jacket. The inner conductor is usually plain copper tube or spirally wound copper tube, and the outer conductor is copper skin with different shapes of slot holes (like figure of eight, U shape, a word, oval, etc.) to achieve the radiation and reception of electromagnetic waves.

Cable coaxial RG6/U, 75 ohmios (with connection cable)

Low high frequency loss for cable television, satellite and television and cable modems.
RG8/U
Cable coaxial RG8 / U, amateur radio 50Ohm
RG11/U
RG11/U Cable Coaxial,75Ohm( With Messenger)Used for long drops and underground conduits.
RG58/U
RG58/U Coaxial Cable,50OhmUsed for radio communications and amateur radio, Thin Ethernet and NIM electronics.
RG59/U
Cable coaxial RG59/U, 75 ohmiosUsed to transport baseband video on CCTV, Previously used for cable television. In general, has poor shielding, but will carry a high quality HD signal or video over short distances.
RG213/U
Cable coaxial RG213/U, 50 ohmiosFor radio communications and amateur radio, EMC test antenna cables, typically lower loss than RG58.

Leaky Cable Application

underground mines: In complex mine environments where traditional wireless communication equipment fails, Leaky Feeder Cable installation creates a stable communication network that improves the effectiveness of communication between miners and the surface control center.

Tunnels and underground systems: In tunnels and underground systems, where signals from mobile devices often have difficulty penetrating thick layers of soil and concrete, Leaky Feeder Cable can be installed along the tunnel or underground line to ensure that passengers and staff can communicate with each other while the train is moving.

Inside buildings: Inside large buildings with complex structures and severe signal attenuation, Leaky Feeder cable can provide stable wireless signal coverage to meet indoor communication needs.

Hidden installation: In security applications where hidden installation is required, like museums and prisons, Leaky Feeder cable can be installed along walls or ceilings to provide wireless signal coverage throughout the area, while avoiding the aesthetic problems associated with visible antenna installations.

Technical name of Leaky Cable

Frequency band coverage:
Coaxial leakage cables are available in a wide range of frequency band coverage, typically covering bands from a few hundred MHz to several GHz, depending on cable design and manufacturing standards. For example, some models can cover the 800~960 MHz band, while others can support higher bands.
Impedance:
The impedance of a cable is an important technical parameter that determines the adaptation of the cable to the connected equipment. Common leaky coaxial cables have an impedance of 50Ω or 75Ω, but other specifications may be available.
Attenuation:
Attenuation indicates the degree of signal loss as it travels through the cable. Attenuation characteristics of leaky coaxial cables increase with frequency and cable length, but the exact value should be determined according to the cable type and specification.
Coupling loss:
Coupling loss is the loss of signal when it radiates from the inside of the cable through the slot hole to the outside or when it couples from the outside to the inside of the cable.. This parameter is essential to evaluate the radiant performance of a cable.
Transmission loss:
Transmission loss is the amount of signal loss as it travels through the cable for a length (For example, 100m) and temperature given. It is usually expressed in dB/100m.
Insulation resistance and dielectric strength:
Insulation resistance reflects the ability of the cable insulation to impede current, while the dielectric strength indicates the ability of the insulation not to be punctured under high voltage. These two parameters are essential to guarantee the safety and reliability of the cable..
Mechanical properties:
They include the tensile strength and bend radius of the cable.. These parameters determine the physical stability and durability of the cable during installation and use..
Environmental adaptability:
Includes cable operating temperature range, weather resistance, fire resistance, etc. These parameters are important for the application of cables in different environments.
