What is 6mm Solar cable?

6mm Solar cable Standard

For PV (photovoltaic) systems, the 6 mm Solar Cable cables fulfil the requirements of the German standard 2 Pfg 1169 / 08.2007 and the European standard EN 50618:2015. Its electrical performance characteristics are as follows:

Rated voltage: In alternating current (AC) systems, the maximum rated voltage is 0.6/1.0 kV, which means that the cable is capable of withstanding AC voltages up to this range under normal operating conditions.

Photovoltaic system voltage: In direct current (DC) systems, the cable supports a maximum photovoltaic system voltage of up to 2.0 kV, demonstrating its suitability for high voltage DC environments.

Maximum permissible operating voltage for AC systems: In AC systems, the maximum permissible operating voltage is 0.7/1.2 kV, which means that in practice, the system voltage should be controlled within this range to ensure safe operation of the cable.

Maximum permissible operating voltage for DC systems: In DC systems, the maximum permissible operating voltage is 0.9/1.8 kV, again, this is the upper limit set to ensure the stable operation of the cable in a DC environment.

Test voltage: In order to verify the insulation performance and safety of the cable, it is necessary to carry out a high voltage test. The test conditions are 6 kV AC or 10 kV DC for a duration of 15 minutes. This rigorous testing ensures that the cable maintains its insulation integrity and reliability even under extreme voltage conditions.

1. Conductor

Material: Tinned copper is usually used as the conductor.

Copper has a high electrical conductivity, which reduces the loss of energy during transmission. Tinning prevents oxidisation of the copper conductor in humid or corrosive environments, thus extending the service life of the cable.

Construction: Single or multi-core construction is possible, depending on the application requirements. Multi-core construction is often used where greater flexibility and smaller bend radii are required.

2. Insulation

Material: XLPO, UV resistant, colour black and red, The insulation layer is usually made of cross-linked, low-smoke, halogen-free, flame-retardant polyolefin and other high-quality materials.

Thickness: The thickness of the insulation layer needs to be designed according to the rated voltage of the cable and the usage environment to ensure the electrical performance and safety of the cable.

3. Sheath

Material: XLPO, UV resistant, colour black and red, the sheath is also made of cross-linked, low-smoke, halogen-free, flame-retardant polyolefin and other high-quality materials, which further enhances the mechanical strength and abrasion resistance of the cable.

Function: The sheath not only protects the cable from external physical damage, but also prevents moisture and chemical substances from intruding into the cable, ensuring the long-term stable operation of the cable.
